Creating process-centric digital twins of a vessel principles
Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of creating digital twins of processes occurring on a vessel in operation. Emphasis is placed on operational processes such as maneuvering and the squat. It is shown that existing mathematical mod-els of vessel motion do not provide an absolutely accurate description of the maneuvering process and have limita-tions in their application, similar to the limitations of empirical formulas and algorithms for squat determining. As an alternative to virtual representation of vessel operational processes, it is proposed to use digital twins (DTs) of these processes. The paper substantiates the principles for creating digital twins of vessel operational processes. The article provides a rationale for the principles of forming such digital twins, which primarily includes a substantive analysis of the concept of “process”, including its definition, classifications, localization principles, parameters and characteristics, and particular states.. The conceptual distinction between mathematical and digital models of a vessel is explained.
The article presents the results of a substantive analysis of the concept of "digital twin" and presents a visualization of the concept of a digital twin of a marine vessel during its operation. The structure of a process operational digital twin of a vessel is substantiated. A digital twin is essentially a set of a vector space of parameter vectors and a vec-tor space of characteristic vectors. Solutions to some specific problems in creating a process operational twin are presented, related to the optimization of the representation of input and output quantities (parameters and charac-teristics). In conclusion, tasks for further research are set, the ultimate goal of which is the creation of a comprehen-sive methodological base for the formation and use of process operational twins of a vessel.
